CURRENT ISSUES
The Dallas Citizens Council has always supported Dallas’s public health care system, believing it to be a key component of a healthy, thriving community. In the 1950s, the Citizens Council supported relocating Dallas County’s safety-net hospital, Parkland, to its current location. While the Dallas population has grown exponentially since then, and the hospital has increased its services and patient volume, the 1954 building remains, causing severe space and technology limitations. The needs of our community continue to expand, and so does the need for quality health care. Last year, the Citizens Council supported Parkland’s bond campaign for a much-needed new facility. The voter message was clear; with 82 percent voting in favor of the bond issue, Parkland is moving forward with plans to build in the next several years.
