CURRENT ISSUES
Decisions made by Dallas city leaders 50 years ago to guarantee the city’s long-range water supply have had enumerable benefits for the region and economy. Dallas fares far better than many areas in the state thanks to that planning, which ensures that water needs are met through 2030. Even so, experts estimate that by the year 2060, our demand for water will reach nearly 847 million gallons a day, far outpacing peer cities around the state. Public officials are conducting feasibility studies for Lake Fastrill, Lake Chapman and the Marvin Nichols Reservoir to be developed as additional water supply. The Citizens Council actively supports the Dallas City Council’s long-range water plan as it was debated during the 2007 State Legislative Session. Water recycling and conservation are important tenets of that plan.
