Walt Humann has won the Legacy of Leadership Award from the White House Fellow Foundation for his leadership and dedication to public service.
Mr. Humann, a University Park resident and chief executive of WJH Corp., accepted the award Friday, joining the ranks of Gen. Colin Powell, Gen. Wesley Clark and seven other former fellows who have received the award.
Each year, the president selects around 15 White House Fellows to assist him and the Cabinet officers.
Mr. Humann was selected in 1966-67.
Mr. Humann's résumé includes a number of high-profile jobs and volunteer projects.
He has worked as chairman of Hunt Oil Co. and has been a leader with the Dallas Chamber of Commerce and the Dallas Citizen's Council.
He helped reform the U.S. Postal Service after proposing to turn it into a corporation.
Mr. Humann also helped create the Dallas Area Rapid Transit System, pushed for reconstruction of the Central Expressway corridor and helped lead the Dallas Alliance efforts to voluntarily desegregate Dallas public schools.
